Statushouders Nederland advises, informs, guides and organizes from the entrepreneur's perspective.

Labor market participation is a key prerequisite for the integration of refugees. Because refugees are typically far removed from the labor market, finding work is often complicated in practice. This results in refugees often staying home for extended periods and relying on social assistance.

Self-employment is increasingly seen as an alternative shortcut for refugees to enter the labor market. Newcomers show interest in entrepreneurship and sometimes have experience as entrepreneurs in their countries of origin. Throughout the country, Statushouders Nederland has supported numerous initiatives that assist and guide refugees with entrepreneurial ambitions in setting up their own businesses. Talent for Transition serves as a model for these initiatives. #StatushouderFriendly

We support initiatives that guide status holders to their own work

Many social initiatives aim to guide newcomers into employment. But more is needed than just funding and a good idea. We view the Platform as a social incubator: initiatives emerge from our program stronger and wiser, so they can guide newcomers into employment with greater knowledge and skills.

This is how we do it:

  • We provide financing to social initiatives

Thanks to our sponsors and donors, we can financially support initiatives so they can realize their ideas.

  • We function as a conduit for knowledge

There's a wealth of academic research on refugees and work, but these insights rarely find their way into practice. At the same time, a great deal of knowledge is gained in daily practice that researchers don't address. This is a shame, because both fields can learn a great deal from and strengthen each other. That's why we, through the Platform, act as a knowledge hub. We keep our initiatives informed of useful research insights and incorporate practical insights into the academic debate.

  • We offer coaching and a network

To strengthen initiatives, we offer them personalized coaching. This can be one-on-one for specific needs, but in some cases also takes place in a themed meeting with all project leaders. We are happy to make the network we have built available to our initiatives. This way, we can facilitate valuable collaborations.

  • We translate lessons from daily practice into useful insights

We translate the lessons we learn from the daily practice of the social initiatives we support into actionable insights. These insights can be used to strengthen other initiatives that guide newcomers and refugees into employment. Some insights are not so much about the initiatives themselves, but about obstacles beyond their control. We use these insights to create systemic impact: a change in policy, regulations, and culture.

  • Exploring these initiatives approach

A key component of future participation in our knowledge center will be researching the effective components of the initiative's approach. By investigating what works and what doesn't in how an initiative guides newcomers to work, we can work towards a proven approach that can potentially be scaled up to achieve greater impact.
